What does it do?
When do i have to use it?

As a young graphic designer, i have no idea what the work flow and necessary steps and instructions are for creating a new font. And there is the no explanation anywhere,
everyone assume that it is common knowledge (it's not).

Is there a beginners tutorial somewhere?

to 1) It reload the unicode and some other things that mostly are in place anyway. The most important thing it does, is to add all necessary anchors. (e.g. for the "A" it sets the top and ogonek anchor)
You only need to use it if you miss some anchors.

to 2) If you have a Multiple Master Font, you can generate a interpolated instance. How to set up a MM font, I explained in an earlier forum thread.

I’m in the process of setting up a documentation for Glyphs and it will include a small introduction. It can’t cover the core basics of type design, through. Try to look at typophile.com if you find some tutorials.
